What are polymer clay earrings made of?
The earrings are handmade from polymer clay, such as Fimo, Sculpey, and Cernit. The studs and connecting rings used are made of stainless steel in either silver or gold color. Some charms are made of brass. Many earrings are finished with a layer of UV epoxy resin.
Can polymer earrings change colour overtime?
Stainless steel is highly resistant to discoloration and corrosion due to its protective chromium layer. However, under certain conditions such as prolonged exposure to moisture, chemicals, sweat and body oils, or very high temperatures, stainless steel can still discolor slightly.
Brass can discolor over time. This occurs due to oxidation when exposed to air, moisture, and other environmental factors. The acids and oils on your skin can accelerate this process. Read more about cleaning.
Are polymer clay earrings heavy?
No, one of the biggest advantages of polymer clay is that it is lightweight, making the earrings comfortable to wear all day. Even the earrings that are 7 to 8 cm long weigh less than 10 grams! So you hardly feel that you are wearing them.
Can I wear polymer clay earrings when I have an allergy?
Yes, in most cases you can. Stainless steel is a hypoallergenic material, which means it is less likely to cause allergic reactions, making it a safe choice for people with sensitive ears or nickel and lead allergies.
